About Alcatraz

Alcatraz Island is located on San Francisco Bay, and was once the prison home of criminals like Al Capone and Robert Stroud. Before it became a federal penitentiary in 1934, it served as a harbor defense port during the Civil War. Today, Alcatraz Island is a tourist attraction, and offers shelter to many rare birds and flowers.[2] Tours depart every 30 minutes from 9:10 a.m. to 3:50 p.m., with two night tours at 5:55 p.m. and 6:30 p.m.[3]
